CHAPALA MED HEALTH NEWSLETTER
As 2024 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey this year has been and the many blessings that fill my heart with gratitude.
First and foremost, I am profoundly thankful for you—our patients, community members, friends, and family. Whether you’re part of the vibrant expat community here in the Lakeside area, a loyal supporter of Chapala Med, or someone who entrusted us with your care during a visit, your trust and support are the foundation of everything we do. It’s been a privilege to walk alongside you, supporting your health, celebrating your milestones, and being a part of your stories.
This year, Chapala Med has continued to focus on delivering exceptional care in areas we are proud to excel in:
Chronic Disease Management: Helping patients navigate conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease with individualized care plans.
Elder Care: Providing compassionate and comprehensive care for aging patients, addressing their unique needs and promoting quality of life.
Mental Health: Supporting emotional well-being through thoughtful care and mental health advocacy, especially during life’s transitions.
Regenerative and Longevity Medicine: Emphasizing early detection, regeneration, and optimizing health through regular checkups and supplementation to keep you at your healthiest.
Acute & Urgent Care: Ensuring that when life throws unexpected challenges your way, we’re here to provide prompt and effective treatment.
As we look ahead to 2025, here are three simple but impactful tips for a healthier and happier year:
Prioritize Your Health: Schedule routine checkups and screenings. Prevention is truly the best medicine.
Stay Active and Engaged: Physical activity and social connections are key to maintaining both mental and physical well-being. Join a local club, take a morning walk by the lake, or try something new like yoga or dancing.
Practice Gratitude: Take a moment each day to reflect on the positives. A grateful heart is a happier heart.
To all of you who have shared kind words, supported us in countless ways, and been part of the Chapala Med family, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You inspire us to keep striving for excellence in everything we do.
Here’s to a 2025 filled with health, happiness, and community. From all of us at Chapala Med, we wish you a joyous holiday season and a wonderful New Year!
Warm regards,
Dr. Santiago Hernandez

HEALTHCARE GOALS FOR 2025 !
TIPS FOR SETTING HEALTH GOALS
As we step into a new year, it’s the perfect time to embrace a fresh perspective on health and wellness. At Chapala Med, we believe that setting thoughtful, achievable health goals can lead to a longer, more vibrant life. Whether you’re aiming to lose weight, eat more nutritiously, exercise regularly, reduce alcohol intake, or quit smoking, these resolutions aren’t just about what you give up—they’re about what you gain: better energy, improved mental clarity, and a higher quality of life.
Achieving these goals often starts with small, consistent changes that add up over time. A balanced diet doesn’t have to be complicated—simple swaps, like incorporating more fresh vegetables and whole grains, can make a world of difference. Adding just 30 minutes of daily exercise, whether it’s a brisk walk around the malecón or a swim in the lake, can boost your cardiovascular health and reduce stress. Reducing alcohol intake or quitting smoking, while challenging, are among the most impactful choices you can make for your longevity and overall well-being. At Chapala Med, we offer resources and personalized support to help you tackle these changes and succeed.
Mindset is key to sustaining these positive habits. A growth mindset encourages us to see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as obstacles. Visualize yourself thriving with your new habits—picture the energy to explore new hobbies, play with grandchildren, or simply wake up feeling your best. Surround yourself with supportive friends and family who can cheer you on, and remember that setbacks are a natural part of the journey, not a reason to give up.
We at Chapala Med are here to guide you every step of the way. From crafting a realistic health plan tailored to your needs to providing the medical expertise and encouragement you deserve, you’re not alone in this journey. Let’s make 2025 the year of optimal health and longevity for you and your loved ones. Together, we can make your health goals a reality. Here’s to a healthier, happier you!

Heart attack symptoms in women are often different than men
This is a stressful time of year and the incidence of ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROMES INCREASES. Inform yourself on what the symptoms of a heart attack are.
“Women of all ages should take heart disease seriously,” says Dr. Alur. “Many women tend to downplay their symptoms and not seek care until heart damage has already occurred and an emergency room visit becomes necessary. We want women to understand the importance of listening to their bodies, understanding what feels normal to them, and seeking care before symptoms become severe.”

By understanding and optimizing your metabolism, we aim to help you achieve sustainable weight management and reduce the risk of metabolic diseases.
2. Nutritional Excellence: Nourishing your body with the right nutrients is vital for longevity and vitality. We emphasize personalized nutrition plans, tailored to your unique needs and goals, to ensure you receive the essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants required for optimal health.
3. Sleep and Stress Management: Adequate sleep and effective stress management play pivotal roles in longevity. Our program focuses on identifying sleep patterns, addressing sleep disorders, and implementing stress-reducing techniques to promote restorative rest and mental well-being.
4. Physical Fitness and Resilience: Building physical resilience is essential to thrive as we age. We design personalized exercise regimens, considering your current fitness level and long-term goals, to enhance strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.

Yuval Noah Harari’s 21 Lessons for the 21st Century offers an insightful exploration of the challenges and opportunities that define our rapidly evolving world. The book examines issues like technological disruption, political instability, climate change, and the shifting landscape of human values. Harari provides a thought-provoking framework to understand the complexities of modern society while encouraging readers to reflect on their personal roles in navigating these challenges. His clear, accessible writing bridges the gap between abstract global trends and their tangible impacts on individuals and communities.
For Chapala Med’s patient base, 21 Lessons serves as an invaluable guide to understanding the societal shifts that affect their lives. Many in this demographic are navigating retirement, global connectivity, and health concerns in a world vastly different from the one they grew up in. Harari’s insights into how artificial intelligence, digital privacy, and the future of work are reshaping the human experience can empower Baby Boomers to adapt and thrive. By fostering an awareness of global interconnectedness and the moral questions of our age, this book aligns with Chapala Med’s mission to provide holistic care—addressing not just physical health but also the mental and emotional well-being of its community. Reading 21 Lessons can inspire patients to embrace lifelong learning, adaptability, and proactive engagement with the world around them.
