CHAPALA MED HEALTH NEWSLETTER

Greetings from Dr. Hernandez

Warm greetings to our valued patients and the expat community in the Chapala Lakeside area of Jalisco, Mexico,

As we bid farewell to September and embrace the arrival of October, we are excited to bring you the latest installment of our monthly newsletter. Our aim is to continue providing you with pertinent information and insights tailored to your unique needs and interests.

In this edition, we shift our focus to the upcoming Mexican holidays, including Independence Day, Day of the Dead, and Halloween/Thriller in Ajijic. While these festivities are a delightful part of life in the Lakeside Community, we recognize the importance of celebrating safely. We’ll share tips and recommendations to ensure that your holiday season is both joyous and secure.

Amidst the festivities, it is crucial to stay informed about the latest developments regarding COVID-19. We will keep you updated on any new strains or outbreaks, as your health and safety remain our top priorities. We also have new clues as to the causes and potential cures for LONG COVID.

As we approach the end of the year, we will also discuss age-appropriate vaccinations for common upper respiratory infections prevalent in our local community. Maintaining your health is a shared responsibility, and we are here to help you make informed decisions. Vaccines for pneumonia, shingles and the yearly influenza should be a priority for most of the expat population here

Furthermore, we will explore the unique health considerations that come with the fall season in Jalisco. From changing weather patterns to seasonal allergies, we’ll provide valuable insights to help you stay healthy and thriving. While our practice promotes thriving and longevity for our patients we also advocate a dignified and humane end of life as we embrace using psychedelic-assisted therapies for our terminal patients.

Our commitment to your well-being remains steadfast, and we are proud to be your trusted primary care practice in the Chapala Lakeside area. Your health is our priority, and we are dedicated to supporting you on your journey to optimal well-being.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your healthcare journey. We look forward to keeping you informed and empowered in the coming months.

Warm regards,

Yours in health,

Santiago Hernandez, M.D.

Thinking of Participating in this 2023

THRILL THE WORLD?

Certainly! Here are five health tips for baby boomers preparing to partake in Halloween partying and dancing in a local THRILL THE WORLD choreographed dancing event:

  1. Stay Active Year-Round: Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining strength and stamina as you prepare for a dancing event. Incorporate a balanced exercise routine that includes aerobic exercises, strength training, and flexibility exercises to improve your overall fitness.
  2. Warm-Up and Stretch: Before hitting the dance floor, be sure to warm up your muscles with light cardio and follow it up with gentle stretching exercises. Pay particular attention to stretching your legs, arms, and back to prevent injuries and improve your range of motion.
  3. Hydrate Adequately: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially during intense physical activity like dancing. Drink plenty of water throughout the day leading up to the event and bring a water bottle with you to stay hydrated during the dance party. Proper hydration helps prevent muscle cramps and fatigue.
  4. Choose Comfortable Footwear: Comfortable and supportive footwear is essential for dancing. Opt for shoes that provide cushioning and good arch support to reduce the risk of foot and ankle injuries. Make sure your shoes fit well and are broken in before the event.
  5. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how your body feels during practice sessions and at the event itself. If you experience pain, discomfort, or fatigue, take a break and rest. Pushing through pain can lead to injuries. Don’t be afraid to modify dance moves or take it easy when necessary

Bonus Tip: Consider consulting with your healthcare provider before embarking on any new physical activity regimen, especially if you have underlying health conditions. They can provide personalized advice and ensure that dancing is a safe and enjoyable experience for you.

Remember, dancing is a fantastic way to have fun, socialize, and stay active, and with the right preparations and precautions, baby boomers can fully enjoy Halloween festivities and events like THRILL THE WORLD

2023 Vaccines

Ensuring the health and well-being of our senior expat community in Mexico is our top priority, and that’s why we’re excited to announce the availability of age-appropriate vaccines designed to safeguard those aged 60 and above. These vaccines are specifically tailored to address the unique health needs of older adults, providing them with added protection against various diseases. Here are the top 5 age-appropriate vaccines that our practice is proud to offer to the local community:

  1. Influenza (Flu) Vaccine: The flu vaccine remains a crucial defense against seasonal influenza, which can be particularly severe for older adults. Annual flu shots help reduce the risk of infection and its associated complications.
  2. Pneumococcal Vaccine: Pneumococcal disease, including pneumonia, can be serious for seniors. The pneumococcal vaccine is recommended to help prevent these infections and their potentially severe consequences.
  3. Shingles (Herpes Zoster) Vaccine: Shingles can cause painful rashes and long-term nerve pain, primarily affecting older adults. The shingles vaccine is highly effective in reducing the risk of this condition.
  4. Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) Vaccine: Tdap booster shots are essential for maintaining immunity against these potentially serious diseases. They help protect against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).
  5. COVID-19 Vaccine: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of vaccination for all age groups. Older adults are at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, making vaccination a critical step in preventing infection and its complications. Mexican President AMLO has recently stated that he favors importation of COVID vaccines for sale at private businesses such as clinics and pharmacies. And as soon as they are available, Chapala Med will be offering them to our patients and local community.

We are committed to providing these vaccines to our local expat community, ensuring that you have access to the best preventive care available. Your health and well-being are our foremost concerns, and we encourage everyone aged 60 and above to consider these vaccines as essential tools for a healthy and active life in Mexico. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our practice for more information and to schedule your vaccinations. Your health is our priority, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
