CHAPALA MED’S Monthly Health Newsletter
December 2020 Year-End

 Health Newsletter

Greetings to the readers of Chapala Med’s Health Newsletter and our patients. We find ourselves at the end of a difficult year due to the COVID19 pandemic. This virus has touched the lives of everybody we know and has even cost some the lives of friends and loved ones. Those of us in the medical field continue to be on the front lines but I have yet to meet one doctor or nurse who has run away from their duties as a healthcare professional during these trying times.

Despite the setbacks by the pandemic Chapala Med has carried on and continued to grow. I am very happy to report that as of today, we have opened a new branch in RIBERAS DEL PILAR, Chapala Med II.  I am even more pleased to report that the RMC hospital is now open and providing care to the community. Chapala Med will continue as a PRIMARY CARE practice and my duties in the hospital, where I will serve as Medical Director,  will not limit me from continuing to provide care to my patients. My time will be split between the both. I may not see as many patients on a daily basis but I will strive to give my patients the ample time that they need in order to provide you with the best of care.

I count myself lucky to be your guide in the jungle that is the Mexican Medical system and as your PARTNER in maintaining your health, independence and quality of life. And last but not least, we’d like to wish each and every one of our patients (past and present) a very happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous new year.

I am abstaining from writing anything related to COVID19 at this point in time. I think we can all appreciate how the news regarding this virus and the pandemic changes almost on an hourly basis. We should all continue to keep our guard up and practice social distancing, especially now that a NEW STRAIN of the COVID19 has been reported in the U.K.  Please stay safe.

In closing I’d like to remind our readers of our (Chapala Med & Ribera Medical Center’s) MISSION STATEMENT so that you are all aware of what we are striving to accomplish everyday and hold us to this mission.  Thank you for continued support.

Ribera Medical Center Hospital

The hospital is NOW OPEN!

I will be serving you as medical director of this hospital that was just a dream in 2016. The hospital counts with round-the-clock Emergency Medical Doctors as well as on call specialists.  The hospital has opened its doors to all physicians who have their licensure up to date and their credentials in order.

If you want to be treated specifically by the CHAPALA MED team of physicians at this hospital please contact me or upon your arrival at the hospital state that it is your wish to be attended to by our doctors who will be visibly wearing our LOGO on their lab coats and uniforms. In a future newsletter I will introduce all of the CHAPALA MED physicians on call and those working at both clinics.

The only thing that is not up and running is the MRI which will be functional at the end of January 2021.

Books that I recommend

As physicians we’re taught to continuously pursue improving our knowledge and skills not only from medical books but also from authors who can teach us to practice medicine in a more humanistic manner. So, I’d like to include in my newsletters books and articles/blogs that have enriched my life and my ability to practice medicine.

This past year, WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR by Paul Kalanithi has impacted my life a great deal and has lead me to reflect on my own mortality each and every day. I believe that reflecting on my own mortality and keeping in mind the author’s experiences, will help me become a better doctor for my patients and a better person for my friends and family.

If there is one book that you read in 2021, I recommend that it be WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR.

The following are also good reads that I have come across and highly recommend.
CHAPALA MED’S MISSION
The Healthcare providers & Staff at Chapala Med pledge

“We pledge to preserve our humility, integrity, and all the values which brought us to the practice of medicine. We will engage in ho
nest self-reflection, striving for excellence but acknowledging our limitations, and caring for ourselves as we care for others. We will seek to heal the whole person, rather than merely treat disease, committing to a partnership with our patients that empowers them and demonstrates empathy and respect. We will cure sometimes, treat often, and comfort always.”
