Happy & Healthy New Year to Chapala Med’s patients and friends in the local communities of the Chapala Lakeside and Guadalajara. This is the first newsletter of 2022 and and the first in few months for a variety of reasons. If anything can define 2021 it is that it was a year of CHANGE. It was one year ago that our team got the new RMC hospital on its feet and I was the medical director. We are proud of the groundwork that Chapala Med laid in order to breathe life into this project. After two changes in the administration and growth and new projects of myself and most of the shareholders of the RMC we can happily say we have set that ship out to sail. Lakeside now has one more option for medical care and the Chapala Med team can offer our patients another option for hospitalization and major medical services.
Unfortunately it has been brought to my attention that there have been some patients who arrived at the RMC hospital seeking the attention of myself along with my team. Some of the current administrative and medical staff negated the medical care and attention that they sought on my behalf and that of my medical team leading to undesired outcomes. Upon their release, these patients sought me out directly to express their dissatisfaction with the manner in which their wishes were denied and to express how they felt abandoned by myself and my team. So, I assure my patients and the community that we have been taking steps to ensure that this does not happen again and hold those responsible to cease such reproachable, unprofessional and unethical behavior which only tarnishes their reputation as medical professionals and as members of this community.
Chapala Med can now openly to provide care to our patients at both the local lakeside hospitals as well as the well known and respected hospitals in Guadalajara such as San Javier, Puerta de Hierro, Real San Jose, Country 2000 and soon a NEW Hospital Joya. Thought these hospitals we have affiliations with prestigious hospitals such as the Mayo Clinic, Univ. of Chicago Hospitals and UC San Diego. So, we can offer you exceptional care based not only on your immediate medical needs may be but your resources as well such as your type of national and international insurance. That is why we recommend that if you believe you have a medical emergency, even before you set foot in an Emergency Room, call me, Dr. Hernandez for reliable and ethical care with YOUR best interest in mind and not that of one particular hospital. I have always been an advocate for my patients and will never put the needs of a hospital or institution before that of my patients. Even if the hospital was born from my idea and that of my associate, Mr. Carbajal. I will always respect my patient’s wishes and autonomy to seek a second opinion or the care of other doctors, even those who are not members of the Chapala Med team.
Twelve months ago, most of us thought that we would be returning back to the lives we lead before COVID19 came on the world stage. If anything this past year has made my staff and I made us more unified, resilient and focused on our mission to provide you with the excellent PRIMARY CARE that our patients and the community has come to expect, even in these uncertain times. Yes, it has been difficult to provide care to patients with COVID19 at home and at times in our office and hospitals. Some have recovered with no séquelae, while others have sadly passed away and others are still dealing with the long term consequences of the COVID19 infections. The levels of stress of my office staff, medical team and myself have been tested and pushed to their limits. By the grace of God we have made it thus far and with our knowledge and perseverance we will continue to provide care for you and the rest of the community well until after this pandemic is over. We humbly ask you to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I can tell you all that each and everyone of the Chapala Med team absolutely LOVES what each one of us does at Chapala Med. Despite practicing medicine in the shadow of COVID19, we have managed to save lives and provide care to those with cancer, severe heart disease, fractured hips and various chronic illnesses. Again I ask you to keep us in your thoughts and prayers and if your health has in some way benefited from the care we have provided you and yours in the past, please continue to recommend us to your friends and loved ones.
Chapala Med is Primary Care.
Chapala Med excellence in Medicine.
Chapala Med is Family.
Chapala Med is CHAPALA MED.
Thank you and have a happy and blessed 2022.
Santiago R. Hernandez M.D.

Self-love and self-care do not necessarily have to include bath bombs, glasses of wine, expensive cosmetics, and Instagram-worthy moments. Perhaps self-care and self-love can be more generous, gentle, and forgiving. Perhaps the unconditional self-acceptance, that is: lovingly, kindly, empathetically loving, celebrating our imperfect, quirky selves, with all our ups and downs is what we are searching for when we talk about self-care.

Purpose-Driven Medicine for Purpose-Driven Lives
|
|
|
We pledge to preserve our humility, integrity, and all the values which brought us to the practice of medicine. We will engage in honest self-reflection, striving for excellence but acknowledging our limitations, and caring for ourselves as we care for others. We will seek to heal the whole person, rather than merely treat disease, committing to a partnership with our patients that empowers them and demonstrates empathy and respect. We will cure sometimes, treat often, and comfort always.
